WINNIPEG, Manitoba (July 24, 2014) – Cabela’s Canada will celebrate the official grand opening of its Nanaimo, British Columbia store – the company’s first British Columbia location – Thursday, Sept. 11.

A unique ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by Cabela's executives and special guests, will begin at 10:45 a.m. and conclude with the grand-opening ribbon being cut by an arrow shot from a bow. Doors will open for business at 11 a.m.

Opening day will kick off a weekend-long celebration highlighted by special appearances, family events, giveaways and more. A complete schedule of events will be available on www.cabelas.ca/stores when finalized.

The company is transforming a former Canadian Tire building, located at 6900 Island Highway in the Dickinson Crossing Shopping Centre, into a 50,000-square-foot store. The building’s exterior will reflect Cabela’s popular store model with log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing.

The interior will be designed to surround customers in an outdoor experience, including museum-quality wildlife displays and thousands of quality outdoor products. It is expected to employee approximately 150 full-time and part-time employees.

Currently, Cabela’s operates 59 stores across North America, including six in Canada – Winnipeg, Manitoba; Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan; two Edmonton, Alberta locations; and Barrie, Ontario.

The company has announced plans to open an additional 19 stores over the next two years, including locations in; Moncton, New Brunswick, in 2015; and Calgary, Alberta, in 2015.
