Dr. Valerius Geist
Dr. Valerius Geist is a Canadian biologist and a champion of wildlife conservation. He earned his BSc. and PhD. of zoology in ethology from the University of British Columbia, graduating in 1967, and went on to become a professor of environmental science at the University of Calgary. Geist has authored/co-authored twenty-one books, including the definitive 1995 essay on the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, which was subsequently popularized by the likes of Shane Mahoney and John Organ.
In 2019, Mahoney and Geist co-authored a book by the same title. Geist also helped pen Canada’s Wildlife Conservation Policy of 1995. His work is focused on advocating for ethical hunting practices and has been influential in shaping our collective understanding of the challenges facing our wildlife communities in Canada and beyond.
