Mind the swell
Try on hiking boots or shoes in the evening. Feet usually swell slightly throughout the day, so it’s a good idea to test them out when your feet are at their largest.
Toe-test
They should be snug everywhere, but not too tight that you can’t wiggle your toes.
Be materialistic
Pay attention to the specific material and fabrics used in the hiking boots or shoes you are interested in. Check if the boots can encounter the conditions you expect during your hikes and adventure activities.

Synthetics: Easy to break-in, lightweight, dries quickly
Split-grain leather: Abrasion resistant, water resistant and has natural puncture resistance.

A garment can only be 100% waterproof when the seams are all sealed and the fabric has a waterproof treatment or membrane.
A water-resistant garment can have some or no seam sealing and have a treatment that could wear off over time.

Waterproof jackets should not be washed using a regular detergent. NixWax Tech Wash-In cleans your jacket while leaving the water repellency intact longer. Using this process to wash your jacket should keep the jacket waterproof twice as long as regular detergent.
